What should I look for in replacement used car parts?

11/8/2020

As we discussed in another of our Sourcing Parts blogs Does sourcing quality parts make your workshop more profitable?, sourcing the right replacement car parts offers you a strong opportunity to be as good, or better than your competitors. But when looking for replacement car parts you may ask yourself, ‘Are OE quality car parts actually better than cheaper alternatives?’ The answer is definitely, ‘yes’: and here’s four reasons why.

The average length of vehicle ownership for new and used vehicles has increased. It rose 60% in the US between 2007 and 2017.” Source: v12 data

1 Quality

Leading manufacturers such as ZF tend to make a range of parts across the chassis and have a deep knowledge of how each element works together, which gives vehicles greater safety on the road. And because they often work closely with car manufacturers they’ll always provide your workshop with the latest parts and technology.

2 Coverage

Major parts manufacturers do more than just design and manufacture replacement parts; they invest hundreds of thousands of Euros on the latest data to ensure that they offer the right range for each market – from cars and large goods vehicles to light commercial vehicles. This means that major manufacturers such as ZF Aftermarket, and its brands such as TRW, offer the best coverage, which in turn means that you can serve more customers with quality replacement parts. You’ll also benefit from the latest innovations and developments for braking, steering and suspension parts as soon as vehicle manufacturers get them.

3 Efficiency in the workshop

Quality replacement parts meet vehicle manufacturer specifications and often come with all of the necessary accessories to make a perfect fit, every time. Some manufacturers will also help you do a great job by giving you unique aftermarket support. For example, a company that makes replacement parts will typically provide in the box not only all fitting accessories required to do the job, but also a set of multi-lingual fitting instructions needed to fit fast and fit right, and will offer further technical support and a warranty.

4 Meet customers’ needs

Original solutions are never just a copy of an existing model – they’re designed and built from the ground up to meet the real world challenges your customers face every day. They’re based on the latest insights, discovered through direct research and development relationships with major motor manufacturers around the world. And because they’re designed not just to meet standards but to be the best real world solutions, they can far exceed industry standards for safety. For example, TRW’s Corner Module brings you braking, steering and suspension parts that fit perfectly every time and contain within them many innovations, such as COTEC, a friction coating that can stop vehicles up to seven metres quicker than other premium brake pads during the first few stops following a pad change (during the bedding-in period).
