Life behind the wheel
TRW Safety Car at Curitiba, Brazil
With TRW in pole position as the first ever sponsor of the race Safety Car at the FIA World Touring Car Championships, and with our guests enjoying VIP treatment with last year’s winning team, Chevrolet, we thought it was high time to find out more about the man behind the wheel of the Safety Car – Bruno Correia.
32 year old, Bruno Correia from the Algarve region in Portugal boasts a successful racing CV that includes titles in the Portuguese Formula Ford Championship (1994) when he was the youngest race winner in the history of the Series at just 16 years old, and the Spanish Formula Renault 2000 Championship (1996).
He also spent seasons in the Americas, taking part in the USA's Formula Dodge Barber Pro-Series and becoming vice-champion in the Brazilian Superturismos.
In 2008 he started acting as safety car driver for the Club ACDME at the Estoril and Algarve racetracks and in 2009 moved into WTCC in 2009, making this his second season.
I am proud to be associated with TRW and their sponsorship of the FIA WTCC Safety Car.
“It’s a first for the championship and a great way for TRW to convey the message of safety to their guests and to all the fans of the WTCC" said Bruno.
Besides his work on the WTCC, Bruno wants to start competing again in 2010 and aims to team with Pedro Salvador at the GT Portuguese Championship, driving a Juno SEE.
