TRW is a pioneer in the design, development and manufacture of complete braking systems and when it comes to brake pads, the most important part is the friction material.  Our development laboratories have been designing and testing materials to exceed the high quality expectations for commercial vehicles and as a result, TRW brake pads performed significantly higher than original equipment service (OES) brake pads in independent tests. In fact, all TRW backing plates are engineered and improved beyond OE specifications. The TRW backing plate is an innovative design which is patented and produced in-house - giving significant improvements in both shear and material contraction properties.

In accordance with the TRW Environmental Policy, all TRW’s HCV brake pads are heavy metal free, and have been introduced well ahead of any legislation.

Heavy Duty Tests

To ensure TRW Proequip brake pads perform against OES standards, TRW subjects its pads to extensive testing which is evaluated by the independent authorities in the Netherlands (RDW).  All tests are carried out to check that TRW Proequip pads are safe and effective in every driving situation - from downhill, emergency braking to repeated stops.

Type of tests carried out include:

• High performance test – looks for bedding in behaviour and fading
• Alpine test simulation – looks for performance on downhill braking after 12 minutes of constant braking on a 20 per cent incline
• Dynamometer test in conjunction with ECE R90 homologation
