Reports from the tracks in Zolder, Belgium and Monza, Italy
WTCC rounds three and four at Zolder, Belgium
Summer and the WTCC arrived together at the racetrack in Zolder Belguim, on Easter weekend for rounds three and four.
The track was packed with spectators, who were rewarded with two close races which saw championship leader Rob Huff (Chevrolet) claim his second pole position and go on to take first place on the podium for round three, joined by his team mates Alain Menu and Yvan Muller.
Chevrolet’s lead was momentarily disrupted in round four with SEAT’s Gabriele Tarquini taking gold after a hard fought battle with Huff who succumbed to a suspension problem in the seventh lap and only managed to finish in sixth position.
At the end of round four, Huff leads the championship with a one- point margin ahead of Menu.
Chevrolet claims victory in rounds five and six at Monza, Italy
TRW’s favourite team, ‘Chevrolet’ claimed WTCC victory for the third time in a row – this time at Monza on 15th May.
Being only the third driver in WTCC history to win both races in a single event, Rob Huff claimed first place on the podium at Monza, leaving the race 41 points ahead of his team-mates Yvan Muller and Alain Menu who both put up a valiant fight! The Briton did not crack under their relentless pressure and completed a superb race.
‘Huffy’ is in pole position, and at this point in the championship is looking a likely contender for the world title. Chevrolet teammates take the next two highest points scores with Yvan Muller ranking second and Alain Menu third.
The WTCC championship will resume at Budapest, Hungary, on June 5th for rounds seven and eight.
