Race mechanic competition - Italy

Q: How did you find out about TRW’s ‘Race Mechanic for the Weekend’ Competition?
A: My sister entered my name in the competition as I’m a big fan of motorsport and she thought I had just as much chance of winning as anybody else. She didn’t tell me, so you can imagine it was a big surprise when I actually won!

Q: What job do you do on a day- to-day basis?
A: I work for the family business Autoofficina Tirendi Antonino, near Catania, Sicilia. With my Dad, we run an independent workshop and a wholesaler shop. The areas I am responsible for are: electronic systems; air conditioning systems and fuel tank retrofitting.
 
Q: As a motorsport fan, what do you follow?
A:  I’ve followed Formula One since I was a child and for the past few years have also followed the WTCC.
 
Q: If you had to choose, what would the highlights of the weekend be?
A: The atmosphere and the team spirit were impressive. And I really enjoyed my hot lap with Rob Huff; the G-Forces you can achieve in a race car are amazing. And it was stunning to see how professional the Chevrolet Team (RML - Ray Mallock Limited) is in action.
 
Q: Did anything happen that you did not expect?
A: What shocked me most was how competitive the drivers are on the track with their own teammates! In one race there was actually a crash between Menu and Muller!
 
Q: Any last thoughts?
A: The event was organized perfectly and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.
