Safety versus fuel efficiency
TRW’s technologies help to find a middle ground
A survey by ‘Consumer Reports’ showed that 64% of consumers place safety as a ‘top three’ when purchasing new vehicles – often turning to LARGER, more expensive models to meet this desire
Conversely, Government regulations are pushing for greater fuel/emissions savings and SMALLER vehicles can help meet these mandates
At the same time, emerging markets are beginning to introduce vehicle safety legislation
TRW’s technologies address BOTH safety and fuel efficiency and are helping to find a middle ground for this complex situation by working towards greener, safer driving for ALL:
- Driver Assist Systems (DAS) support fuel efficiency and driving behaviour. These include: Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Guide
- Braking systems such as Electronic Stability Control Regeneration (ESC-R) and Slip Control Boost (SCB) support safer driving
- Electrically Assisted Steering/Hydraulic Steering Systems offer considerable fuel/emissions benefits
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) inform the driver of under inflated tyres, improving rolling resistance and reducing fuel consumption by up to 2%
- Advanced brake calipers and Electric Park Brake (EPB) reduce residual drag
