HCV range – gearing up for the next generation of heavyweights

Delivering on our promise to always keep up-to-date with the ever growing number of part references that make up the European commercial vehicle parc, TRW has again extended its HCV product portfolio.

Following the launch of TRW Proequip’s OE quality steering gears programme in May 2009, we have now taken the programme to the next level with the launch of a bevel box for TRW’s high pressure (THP) type steering gears.

What is the difference between TRW TAS and TRW THP type steering gears?

The programme consists of two types of re-circulated ball type gears for HCV power steering systems; the original TRW advanced steering type gear, (TRW TAS) and the next generation TRW high-pressure type gear (TRW THP).

The TRW TAS gear, which is still widely used, was engineered to give superior torque output and performance for vehicles with medium and heavy front axle loads.

The next generation gear, TRW THP, provides the following benefits:

• Gives a faster steering ratio providing improvements in lock-to-lock turns.
• Its lower internal gear friction enhances the return-to-centre response
• The optional positive centre feel (PCF) feature improves the steering gear on-centre feel, without an increase in steering park effort.

The bevel box is the latest part to be launched within the steering gears programme.
