TRW – working towards safety for everyone

At the recent IAA show in Frankfurt, Germany, TRW demonstrated its commitment to ‘the safety everyone deserves’.

With an estimated 1.3 million people killed on the world’s roads each year, TRW highlighted a number of new technology innovations with an emphasis on developing advanced safety technologies suitable for all vehicle platforms and in all markets.

“Our aim is to assist in making everyone safer - not just those who can afford a luxury vehicle.” John Plant, TRW Automotive chairman, president and chief executive officer, September 2011.

Future brake system (FBS)

Announcing that it is currently developing its next generation of advanced, modular brake systems - the technology is vacuum independent and can simplify the brake system while enhancing functionality - TRW’s VP engineering, Josef Pickenhahn, explained: “This fully integrated system - Future Brake System (FBS) - will use pedal simulation and a mechatronic brake boost, but will be up to 4 kilograms lighter and will eliminate some components to make it more affordable.”

  • Fully modular
  • Meets all standard brake and control functions such as ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Support enhanced autonomous brake applications with highly dynamic brake pressure builds and control accuracy for systems like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and ACC Stop and Go, Collision Mitigation and Automatic Emergency Braking.
