Muller closes in on Huff as BMW claims first win

Weather: overcast. The track was damp in the first race and dry in the second.

TRW’s favourite WTCC team, Chevrolet’s winning streak finally came to an end at the Oschersleben race track in Germany, after eleven consecutive victories. On home soil, in the second race, BMW driver Franz Engstler claimed his first WTCC win, which was also the first win for the Munich built 1.6 litre turbo engine he was driving.

The first race gave Chevrolet another 1-2 finish, with Yvan Muller taking first place on the podium. He scored his third consecutive race victory in difficult weather conditions shrinking the gap on the leadership board between himself and leader Rob Huff  to just 8 points.

The second race saw a more varied podium with BMW, Chevrolet and SUNRED/SEAT classified in the order; further evidence that the gap between the Cruze cars and the rest of the field is getting ever closer.

TRW’s Safety Car sent out

TRW’s safety car saw some action when it was sent onto the track when the debris was collected from an early crash between the BMW’s of Bennani and Poulsen.

Huff salvaged an important second place after making a mistake that could have proved crucial in the championship fight. On the fourth lap, the young Briton veered off the track but managed to re-join the race without losing his place. Gabriele Tarquini completed the podium.
