Q: How did you hear about the competition?

A: I heard about the competition through this newsletter! I had a good feeling about it and was excited when I sent in my answers. When I heard I had won, I was thrilled – excited to be part of a big race team, but also nervous I would do something wrong!

Q: Tell us how you first became interested in cars?

A: I grew up around cars, but had never had a burning desire to work with them or own a garage. I went to university and studied design engineering, after that I started work at the family business.

Q: If you had to choose, what would the highlights of the weekend be?

A: Helping to fit the measuring devices onto the cars wheels. Nothing too technical! My lasting memory will be of being with the team when they came first and third in qualifying on the first day. The whole team was elated by that and being with them to share the buzz was amazing.

Q: Did anything unexpected happen?

A: As a spectator, you don’t realise the effort that has to go into keeping the cars in pristine condition. Visitors were constantly filing past the vehicles so I spent time with the other technicians washing the cars!
