How to use the magnetic card from TRW
The magneto sensitive card is made of material which can check the magnetic segments of discs with bearings fitted with an ABS sensor ring.
The material changes colour and shows the magnetic field.
If a magnetic segment is missing or the encoder ring is damaged, the ABS won’t work and the disc with the bearing needs to be changed in pairs.
Steps:
- Before checking, clean the surface of the magnetic bearing with TRW brake cleaner [PFC105, 500ml and PFC115, 5 litre]
- All magnets must be visible. The magnetic side of the wheel bearing should be directed toward the magnetic card

- If the magnetic segments are not visible through the card then the encoder is defective
- If the encoder ring is mechanically damaged the ABS won’t work. Before fitting the brake discs ensure that the ABS sensors and the encoder rings are clean and free of metal particles
The ABS sensor ring and the ABS sensor have to work properly to ensure that the ABS system works and safety is guaranteed.
